Fair wear - Improving working conditions in the clothing industry

Approximately 75 million people are employed within the global fashion industry, of which 85% are women. The industry is marked by numerous challenges that need to be addressed, such as low wages, insecure employment conditions, the prevalence of sexual harassment and gender-based violence, health and safety violations, the inability to form labor unions, concerns over conditions, and in some cases, instances of forced labor and child labor. This results in people worldwide having their livelihoods jeopardized daily and where the right to fair wages is not upheld. This reality forms the basis for the existence of Fair Wear

Fair Wear's mission is "To envision a world where the clothing industry supports workers in realizing their rights to a secure, dignified, and fairly paid employment."

Labor Standards, also known as the Code of Labour Practices, form the basis of collaboration with Fair Wear.

The code comprises eight standards:

1. Employment is freely chosen
   
2. Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining.
3. There is no discrimination in employment.
4. No exploitation of child labor.
5. Payment of a living wage.
6. Reasonable hour of work.
7. Safe and healthy working conditions.
8. Legally binding employment relationship.
